DELL R610 Inquiry

Not Answered This question is not answered

Hi,

Can anybody help with regards to our newly purchased DELL R610, we are having problem in setting up our server. We are installing RHEL 5 in our server but when we are on the process of installation it prompts us "An Error occured- No valid devices where found on which to create new file systems. Please check our hardware for the cause of the problem.

Hope that you can give me feedback ASAP because we are going to use this server for our call recording.

Thanks and regards.

  • Hi Efren,

There are a couple things that might be going on here. What internal storage solution is your R610 configured with? It's possible you have a hardware RAID controller supported by RHEL and the driver is present but there are no virtual disks. Or you might have a S100 or S300 controller which are not supported by RHEL. On the R610, the supported internal storage controllers for RHEL are the PERC 5, PERC 6, PERC H700, and also the SAS 5/i and SAS 6/i controllers. The S100 and S300 are R610 options but they are not supported on RHEL. What controller do you have? Have you created a virtual disk? If you are using a standard RHEL ISO and have a supported controller installed, you can use the Unified Server Configurator Lifecycle Controller OS Deployment Wizard to first create a virtual disk and then deploy the OS. The process for this is described at support.dell.com/.../usctasks.htm Does that seem to help?

Let us know how it goes.
