The specifications are unclear. Does the PowerEdge T110 II server have ECC support? And is ECC support available with all the processor options?
It was my understanding that the Intel Celeron processor series doesn't support ECC. However, this may have changed. I can't find definite information online saying yes or no.
The server looks to be an excellent deal, but ECC support is something I'd like and I'd hate to buy the server and find out it's not available.
Architecture 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz DDR3 unbuffered Error Correcting Code (ECC) DIMMsMemory module sockets Four 240-pinMemory module capacities 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GBMinimum RAM 1 GBMaximum RAM 32 GB
All Dell servers require ECC memory ... some unbuffered (UDIMM), some registered (RDIMM), and some fully-buffered (FBDIMM).
Yes, the machine can physically contain ECC RAM, that much I know. The question is, is ECC on and active with the Celeron processor option?
"Does the PowerEdge T110 II server have ECC support?"
Yes (see my other post). ECC memory is not only supported, but required. (This seemed to be an actual question in your initial post.)
"Is ECC support available with all the processor options?"
There appear to be no current Celeron's that do support ECC (can't explain the absence of spec though):http://ark.intel.com/compare/?ids=27164,27165,27166,27167,27168,27169,27170,30543,27172,27173,30544,27174,27175,27176,27177,27178,49932,27179,27180,27181,27182,33102,49933,27183,49934,27184,27185,27186,29734,29735,27187,29736,35239,42097,27188,27189,27190,27191,27192,27193,27194,27195,27196,27197,27198,27199,27200,27201,34440,35101,35100,34751,42770,42771,42772,42773,58667,63913,53414,53415,53416
In fact, if you are purchasing this server with ECC in mind, here is a comparison of the configurable processors ... only the E3-series processors appear to support ECC:http://ark.intel.com/compare/52273,52271,52269,52276,53422,53480,53491,53414
I'm guessing ECC is simply ignored by the memory controllers on non-supporting processors ... or manipulated by the BIOS.
I guess I shall order the server and see. ECC isn't a showstopper feature, just something that's really nice to have. Thanks for your help and I'll follow up on this post once I receive my server and run tests on it to determine if ECC is active. :)
