dell poweredge 2850 beep 1 - 3 - 2

This question is not answered

HI all,

we have bougth a dell poweredge 2850 with 4 x 2GB RAM modules, (not new)

this was working fine, for 6 months, suddenly the server just stops! (it's a ESX3i machine, with 2 virtual VM's)

so we had to reset the server, and right after that we hear 1 -3 -2 beeps. the manuall says that there is no RAM installed, which is not true

we also replaced the 4x 2GB RAm with the 2x 1GB RAM which was in the server when we bought it, but no result, no matter what we do, the beeps 1 - 3 -2 stays...

anyone, else some ideas??

Thanks in advance,

Harjo

  • Sounds like a replacement MB...

  • If you have tried all 4 dimms one at a time, and none will get the system to post I'd pull all PCIe/PCI-X cards (have to put the riser back in after doing this) and try again. If the issue still persists I'd agree with at5147 that this sounds like a faulty/suspect motherboard.
