Replacing A Failing Drive in a PowerEdge 1850

This question is answered

I have a drive that is in predictive failure and a replacement waiting to be installed. When replacing the drive in a PowerEdge 1850 running RAID 1, should you put the drive to be replaced in Offline mode through OpenManage or just remove the failing drive?

  • FSAdmin,

You will need to force the drive OFFLINE before replacing, otherwise you risk transferring the bad blocks that triggered the Predicted Failure to the replacement drive.

  • That is correct. It should be under that Physical disks drop down.

  • How do you 'force' the drive Offline? Choose "Offline" from "Available Tasks" and "Execute"?
