This is my first Community post, so, I'll apologize ahead of time for any mistakes.
As mentioned in my subject, I have a PowerEdge 1950 Server with PERC 5i integrated controller. Raid 5 configuration with 3 Seagate 146GB 10K drives. One of the Seagate drives failed. I called Dell for a replacement and was informed that these drives were no longer available. The next alternative was a 146GB 10K drive. I said, send me 2 of them. The drives came in, I replaced the failed Seagate with the new Fujitsu and rebuilt the drive.
A month passed and the Fujitsu started to show amber/green predicted failure. I thought, hmm.. might be a fluke so I rebuilt it again. A couple of weeks later 01:01 Seagate did the same thing, along with the 01:02 Fujitsu.
Now, all three of the drives are showing amber/green predicted failure. I tried replacing 01:01 Seagate with a new Fujitsu and I get the same results.
I have broken the raidset and completely rebuilt the virtual disk. All of the lights were green until I started reloading the OS. In the middle of the install, they all turned amber/green.
I need advice. Can anyone help me with this?
Here is a link to the 32 bit diagnostics.
This is done outside the OS or any other management software.
Boot to it and select option 2 for GUI mode and then custom option.
Then you will have a list of devices, select the hard drives and run.
This will give you a clear answer on if the hard drives need to be replaced or not. Usually when a SMART error is given, that drive is bad.

There could be a number of things occurring here.
Once of the first things to do is ensure the firmware is up to date on the server. This will help ensure no communication issues between the hardware devices.
When you recreate the array, you may want to delete the current array. Move the drives to different slots, and ensure to initialize the array so it is completely wiped clean.
Then reinstall. If issues continue it may be best to proceed with pulling a DSET and or controller log. That can be analyzed and see if there is anything specific going on in the logs.
Let us know how things pan out.
I shuffled the drives before building the latest Raid Set. However, that was prior to the Perc 5/i firmware update that I just performed. I also attempted to update the firmware on my Seagate 146GB 10K drives and received the following error:
*** SAS 0-000 Disk - Update Device Firmware **
Test Results : Fail
Error Code 4400:2880
Msg: SMART Failure prediction threshold exceeded (0-5D00) - Failure prediction threshold exceeded.
Do I need to rebuild the Virtual Disk from scratch again?
SMART errors on all drives. Looking at this as replacement drives:
Fujitsu S26361-F4482-L114 Hot Plug Hard Drive - 146GB, 2.5", SAS 6G, 10,000 RPM
Do you see any possible issues with this selection?
I am not exactly sure what size drives came with your server, 2.5, 3.5 etc.
This number can be called.
They can assist you in getting a quote for replacement drives.
If the server is still under warranty. Or the drives are under warranty. Then I would suggest contacting support to get replacements.
