Explanation of PERC H700 and port to drive and raid amount?

This question is answered

Hi,

For the Dell PERC H700 Integrated Card

Ports/Channels : 8 (2x4)

Int/Ext Connectors : 2 Internal

Ports : 2 x4 internal, mini-SAS wideports

Max physical drives in Large RAID volume (R10, R50, R60) : 16

Are ports and channels the same thing. So 8 ports/channels or is it 2 channels with 4 ports each so 8 ports?

The Int/Ext Connectors is this the number of channels or SAS cable connectors?

How many arrays can I get from this card, I would like to get 3 arrays, 3 raid 1 or 2 raid 1 and 1 raid 5?

If it is 8 ports how do they get 16 drives max; How do you calculate the amount of drives considering ports?

Appreciate clearing this up !

  • The H700 has 2 SAS physical ports. Each port has support for 4 'direct' drives. However, by using port multipliers it supports more than 8 drives (e.g. to accommodate the 16 physical drives in a single raid set).

More details about the features of the card can be found in the online manual.
