We have started testing DDPE at work. It was installed on 3 test systems, all laptops. After a couple of days, protection dropped from all the laptops. The web console still shows all 3 systems and continues to inventory them, though. So far I have not been able to figure out the root cause of why it stopped working. Off the top of my head my assumption is something has happened with your PolicyProxy which runs on port 8000 and handles handing out new polices and receives updated statistics from your agents.
