DDP|ST on Latitude E5550 doesn't recognize Samsung SSD PM851 as SED

Hi.

According to it's data sheets, the Samsung PM851 SSD inside the Dell Latitude E5550 is a Opal compliant self encrypting drive. But the Dell Data Protection Console of the Dell Data Protection|Security Tools v1.6 does not find any self encrypting encrypting drive ("Auf Ihrem System wurden keine selbstverschlüsselnden Laufwerke gefunden").

I have switched SATA mode from Raid to AHCI. The Latitude E5550 runs Windows 8.1 Pro in UEFI mode.

What is going wrong?

    There are many variants of the Samsung PM851. Dell does ship SED and non-SED versions of this drive model. Could you run this command to validate if it is a SED or not?

    wmic diskdrive get model

    this will spit out the full title of the drive. if you do not see OPAL or SED in the drive model name, it is not a SED.

    if it does infact state it is a SED, could you try a newer version of DDP | E available at www.dell.com/ddpesupport
