DELL W1700 LCD TV

  • Hi, I've bought a W1700 one year and two month ago. It was working very well until last week.
The sreen went black while I was watching TV. And now, the sound is ok, but when I turn on the monitor it displays only 2 second and then turn back to black screen. It did the same think on every display source. The power led stays on.
Does anywhone get the same problem and find a solution ?

  • I've had this same problem with two W1700s. The first one I purchased new and it worked beautifully for fifteen months, then one day the screen went black but sound continued to work. Dell had me return this one to them and they sent me a reconditioned W1700 (and charged me for it). This one worked great for five months, then one day the screen went black but sound continued to work. Now, I've paid for two W1700s: I have one (dead) and Dell has one (which they've probably reconditioned and resold). I'm going to order a backlight inverter and try to revive my reconditioned W1700.
    Beware of Dell LCD TVs!
  • I ordered a backlight inverter board from the place ChrisM mentioned. Today I replaced the board (not for the faint of heart) in my reconditioned W1700. Now it works beautifully again! Hopefully this time it will work for more than 5 months!

    Chris,
Why doesn't Dell pay for the repairs instead of pointing us to a third party? Dell has lost lots of orders because this kind of bad service has turned off many customers who are also responsible for future purchases. I run a mid-size software company. We had purchased everything from Dell, desktop and laptop PCs, servers, switches, backup equipment, printers, and etc. I gave an executive order to my purchase dept to stop ordering from Dell after I experienced some disturbing responses from Dell's support staff in US and India. Too bad, HP has picked up our orders.

Do the math. Don't be cheap!

    Your old customer
  • dyin8,

Why should Dell pay for the repair on a out of warranty TV? If you want Dell to pay for the repair, you should have extended your TV warranties.

  • Because this problem is caused by a defective inverter design and manufacturing. If Dell only repairs everything under the warranties, why did Dell recently recalled those defective the battaries? The number of instances reported by Dell's customers related to this matter at least should warrant Dell's attention, if nothing else you guys care to do for us. But our experience has been horible when we dealt with your customer service. You should read the posting in this forum. There are many more people who brought this model and other similar models experienced the same problem but don't care to argue with your guys.

No business could afford to alienate their customers.
