I have a Dell E17FPb monitor with an NVida FX 5200 graphics card that I am currently running at 1024x768 on a Dell 4600 system. I know the optimal setting is 1280x1024. I was wondering if I change my monitor to this resolution is there anything else I am going to have to change, such as DPI, to get the best picture quality on the screen. Also this monitor is listed as a generic plug and play monitor in Windows XP and I was wondering if there was a Dell monitor driver I should be using or if the generic driver is fine. Thanks for any help or advice.
For the best display quality you will have to use the 'native' 1280 x 1024 resolution. Experiment with the DPI and other settings to your preference.
The plug & play is fine, but you may be able to find a new driver for it. Click the downloads tab at the top of this page. My 1901FP initially had no 'specific' drivers and was listed as P&P. I've since dowloaded and install drivers for it, but don't really see any difference.
