DELL monitor P2210T and IBM THINKCENTRE model 8183 Y3Q - incompatible ?

Not Answered This question is not answered

hello :)

I was given a very nice monitor the other day, a DELL P2210T. A friend had gotten it as part of a package but he already had a 24" monitor, so no need for this one.

Well I have tried and tried to make it work on my IBM THINKCENTRE and THINKPAD A30. And to no avail.

On the THINKCENTRE, when I try to set the resolution, the screen image shakes and rattle and manages to fill the height of the screen but I have a bar of black space on the left side, of about 2 inches. You can see that the image is squished as well. But when I check the resolution on the INTEL GRAPHIC driver, it does say 1680 x 1050 pixels.

My question is this, am I thinkering with this THINKCENTRE for nothing ? is that resolution even supported by the THINKCENTRE ? or is that resolution available only on DELL system ? I have tried downloading drivers from here and updating everything on the THINKCENTRE to no avail. That computer is running WINDOWS XP.

The sad thing is that I cannot afford another computer, even a used one from DELL. But I would like to get the monitor to work correctly on the THINKCENTRE...

I did not mention trying to install the monitor on my THINKPAD because that was a huge mess and I had to resintall WINDOWS XP and reformat the hard drive when my sister locked and I was left without a screen display.

Sorry for the long message but I am at my wits' end...

Thanks a bunch :(

Mario

  • The P2210 has DP (DisplayPort), DVI, and VGA connectors. What connector on the computers is the monitor connected? Via what cabling? The P2210 default resolution is 1680x1050. When connected to those computers, press the monitor button 3rd from the top. What resolution does it state at the bottom?

  • hello again :)

the monitor is connected to the computer with the vga cable. the computer has no dvi or displayport connectors. the stated resolution in the control panel on both the computer and the monitor (when pressing the 3rd button on the screen) is 1680x1050. something i forgot to mention i think is that there is a purple/blue line about one or two pixels wide on the very left side of the screen, followed by the 2 inches of black space, before the desktop appears. as i mentionned, the height appears correct but the width is squished. everything is too tall :( i have also done a lot of research on this and downloaded all the drivers and still, the problem persists... i assume it is a very silly detail or a small repair that needs to be done.... thanks for your reply though !!!!!

  • If you see the purple/blue line while running the P2210 Self-Test, the monitor is faulty. If so, we do not repair them, we exchange them while under warranty.

  • Hello again :)

No, I don't see the line on the self-test itself. I also did the suggested test of holding 2 of the buttons at the same time and I do get the correct colors, fullscreen. I also know I can get the full screen of the display, just not at 16x9 or 16x10 widescreen format, but enough to show that the display is probably not the issue. I am trying to borrow a computer to try it out, who knows, it might be the THINKCENTRE.

As the monitor is no longer under warranty, do you have an approximate idea as to what the problem might be, if it is broken ? just so i can get an idea before sending it off to be fixed... which i can't afford now, should it be broken.

Thanks for all your help again :)

  • Since you do not see the issue during the Self-Test, the monitor is good.
