Dell All in one 966 not working with Win7

HELP! I recently bought an inspiron N7010 with Windows 7 HOM.  Since being  connected to laptop my 6yo. Dell 966 has refused  to print.

 I can unblock it, somehow, for docs, but I cannot print WEBPAGES.

I manage to cancel printing jobs, but the first stays stuck as "Deleting".

I get a window saying Bidi not available. Static (repeated in various boxes).  When I check, however, Bidi communiication is available.

I have followed all the steps recommended by Dell, uninstalling, reinstalling, dowunloading patch etc , religiously.  Software was not installed succesfully, although it is enlisted in my programs.

Short of changing printer (and brand), what can you advise? Thanks

Now I have a much slower laptop and no print.

    Not sure about the error message. Maybe when it's reported enough, the printer people will come up with a new release.

  • P1, thank you so much for replying. No, I have IE8 , but the problem is not solely web-related. What bugs me, as I said, is that I am unable to cancel the first printing job, whiche makes me suspect a conflict. Did I say my Win 7 is 64-bit?

    Try running Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

     

    Disconnect the printer.

     

    Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

     

    Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

     

    Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode If choosing network, then follow the indtructions. If USB Cable, you will connect the printer when you get the message, the printer is not connected.

  • Rick, I really appreciate yr. help. Perhaps I am not explaining myself clearly.  First, however, here are some details:

    All-in-one-966

    Machine type: 4422-0d1 DP/N 0GH314

    Drivers and utilities 2006 (can't find version).

    R-click Properties. This device is working properly (NB checked when it was stuck!)

    Printer Properties. USB 001 Virtual.....

    Run as administrator.

     

    Now fro toubleshooting.

    Delete Printing Jobs does not work, because the very first printing job stays in the queue and appears as "Deleting". In fact it is not deleting at all.  If I am lucky, it disappears only when I turn off the laptop for hours,

    That is how, yesterday, I was able to print a list of issues. Please note. After this printout, my 966 - which is not shared - refused to print further.

    Problem with PnP devices. Detected.

    Problem with printer. Detected.

    User initialized troubleshooting on a USB device. Detected.

    USB Mass SD has a driver problem. Fixed.

    Device info:

    ID USB\VID_413C&POD_5117&MI_02\7&500C633&1&002

    Error code 10.

    Reinstall DD.

    Balloon: software was installed successfully.

    However, next print request, and it all starts again. Printout refused, job 'stuck as deleting in queue ,  troubleshooting etc.

     

    One thing is unclear to me: why Vista? Any advise more than welcome

    Did you recently install the operating system?

     

    Did you right click on Delete Print Jobs and left click run as administrator, the restart your computer?

     

    Try running Finding System Information remove your product ID and post the rest of the information back here.

     

    What virus protection and firewall are you using.

     

    Printer connected using the wireless adapter or USB cable?

    thanks again. Below  tech list.

    Answers.  Laptop came on with Win7HOM installed. However, after yet another attempt with downloaded patch, all hell broke loose and sys requested creation of back up disk. Hence Original Date appears as 24/04.

    R-clicking then running as admin and restarting makes no difference. First job stays in as Deleting.

    I have Macfee which was pre-installed.

    You tried right clicking on Delete Print Jobs, left click run as administrator. then restarted your computer?

     

     You disconnected the printer. Downloaded and ran the patch to remove the printer, the restarted the computer.

     

    Made sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

     

    Your computer, did it come with Windows 7 64-bit? If not, and the computer was upgraded, the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers need installed first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order These drivers control everything that's connected to the computer, like usb ports, wireless adapters, webcam, etc.

     

    Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

    Hold off on this until you allow the printer past McAfee, it may not be needed, since the drivers may be similar.

    We have found that the drivers need to match the operating system installed. Once the drivers are installed, then follow the instructions located at Language Solution for Dell Inkjet Printers You'll need to make a folder called English(UK). Copy all the files from the English folder and paste them to the English(UK) folder. The printer should install.     Allowing Printer past McAfee


    1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’

    2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.

    3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.

    4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.

    5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.

    6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’

    7. Restart the computer

    read yr. reply, but hear this.

    The laptop refused to remove printer, all because of that deleting job in progress for two days and after I had disconnected the printer! Which means that i kept getting a message about printer being in use!

     I can't even remember how I have succeeded to uninstall , but now I dare not reconnect it, given all the trouble with the software.  And after I pasted the tech details for you, when I went to check for something else I discover that the Product ID has disappeare from my sys info. Is my laptop jinxed?

    It is, frankly, all beyond me.

    The manual method to delete the print jobs.

     

    start, all programs, accessories. Right click on the command prompt, left click run as administrator.

     

    type

     

    net stop spooler

    wait for message, then type

     

    del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.shd

    wait for message, then type

    del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.spl

    wait for message, then type

    net start spooler

     

    If you type

    c:\systinfo.txt

    The last information that you provided from above, should list the product ID on it. That is the product key for that computer and posting it on the forums is against Dells Terms of Use (TOU)

    thanks again for all yr. help. I checked my post before last and I am satisfied that the Product key for my comp. is not there. If I am wrong, please tell me.

    I seem to have got the 966 running. Last night and this morn I managed to print 3 pp., one directly from the web.

    Not sure how, except that I followed the recommended procedure in reverse. Sounds daft, I know. but Miss 966 is working.

    However,  from the depths of my ignorance I wwnt to Windows Error reporting and the following 2 error messages appear non stop. Whether relevant to my case or not, I don't know.
