I lost the installation disk to my 926 printer. I have downloaded the free drivers from the Dell website but my computer and printer still won't communicate. What else can I do? Is there any way to order a new disk?
Try following the instructions located at...
926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)
Then tell me what happens. Make and model of your computer and operating system helpful. Since you don't have the printer disk, then you'll need an OCR Program for scanning. Simple OCR should work nicely with your computer and printer.
What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

Welcome to Dell Community!
i have done this steps but my problem not fix,so i'll say i am not happy for this post and this post was not helpful for me..
Replying to an old thread does not help solve an issue. Things have been changed since this thread was done. Try making a new thread in the Dell Printers Forum and give some details. We should be able to help you.
Make and model of your computer and opertaing system, 32-bit or 64-bit, make and model of your printer and how it's connected.
What virus program and firewall are you using?
What are you trying to accomplish?
I'm having a similar issue... We are trying to set up my boyfriends Dell 926 printer to my laptop and he lost the setup disk so I'm having trouble printing. When I go to print it says that there are troubleshooting issues. I tried troubleshooting the problem through windows and it didn't show a problem. i tried downloading the drivers from the website but it says that I need to insert the last disk to unzip a file and it stops the download. I've tried everything and we just bought new ink for it so I can print things for school. Help please! I'm using an Acer Aspire, Windows 7. Thanks in advance!!
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.Disconnect the printer.Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
I did all that you said and changed the compatibility mode and that's where im stuck... I never got a message about the printer being disconnected and when I go to the setup file it says that my version of windows is not compatible to support the program or something of that nature. I removed the printer from my computer and everything but its still not letting me setup up the printer on my computer.
I was also able to download the drivers from the dell website for my printer and it downloads and says that all files are unzipped, but does nothing further.
***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***
I completed the above step and it still says that the printer has troubleshooting issues. Maybe I am downloading the wrong driver for my computer? how do I know whether I need the 32 bit or the 64 bit? I have windows 7 but that's all I know. after I download the driver and it says that I have unzipped the files and it brings me to a window called "Computer->Acer->Dell->Drivers->R146832" and in the folder it has "apps, common, drivers, install, pubs, tools, wireless, AutoPrnt, Autorun, Setup, Setup, Version" I tried clicking the "setup" option in that folder and on of them just tries to unzip the files again and the other is a message in the notepad that is full of symbols and random words. Ive done all of the steps and I feel like im missing something because every time I do the steps it leads me back to the same spot and im stuck again :(
I forgot to add that when I troubleshoot the printer it says that the drivers are not installed for the printer.
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
You have Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Allow a printer past McAfee
If that doesn't work, you may need to get your McAfee Product key, Belarc Advisor can provide that information. I would then use the McAfee Removal Tool to uninstall McAfee, restart the computer then try to install the printer. If the printer installs, then reinstall McAfee
