My Dell all in one 922 printer wont print from computer but works fine when using the flat bed to copy a document. HELP!

  • My dell all in one 922 printer will print if I place a document on the flat bed and scan it, but if i send any document, word, pdf etc. from my computer it will not print. It will  down load and will engage the printer and even out put the correct number of pages but will not print. I have reinstalled new drives, unplugged and replugged, taken out and replaced the black cartridge, but nothing works. An suggestions... thanks billins.

    Let me see, you have a 922 printer conected(USB Cable or wireless print server) to a computer(Make and model and operating system would be helpful)


    You said the printer does copy a document, when scanned on the glass. Does it make a black & white copy? Does it make a color copy?


    Open the printer with the power on and remove the Dell Series 5 black ink cartridge and make sure the tape is off the cartridge, then reseat the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge. Now when you close the printer, it should print an alignment page. Any error messages?


    Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them and cannot be refilled. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges They can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.


    If the page prints with no error mesages, then you need to re-install the drivers following the instructions below.


    Please follow the instructions below and the printer should install for you. Please make sure you have all Windows Updates, especially .net framework(needed to run many applications) and the latest Java.


    Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch (a MUST with Vista machines, I would also run with XP) to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch until it prompts you to restart your computer.


    Restart your computer.


    Download the proper drivers


    XP Drivers


    Vista 32-bit Drivers


    Vista 64-bit Drivers


    All other drivers


    Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on) Please use a 4ft USB Cable or less.





    Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.


    Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
