Dell 3115cn - ERROR 116-396 with Network scan to computer

  • Hello

I am trying to scan over the network to my Windows SBS server. I tried the 2 ways : FTP and SMB but each time I get this error code when I'm lauching the scan : #116-396 restart your printer ... contact your administrator .....

The printer seems to be well configured in the network (it works fine when printing from windows clients). The "scan to email" feature works perfectly after I added the users into the address book.

On the server side (Windows SBS 2003), the ftp server works also fine (it works from other clients) and the share folder is also visible from all the computers.

Does anyone know the meaning of this error code ???

    Thanks for your support !

  • Interesting.....

I have to believe that you know what you're doing as many folks have more problems getting scan-to-email working than scan-to-NET. You indicate your scan-to-email "perfectly". That's good, as that eliminates a lot of hardware.

I've got some service docs on this machine and the first thing they say to check is the Country setting under Fax Settings in the Admin Menu.... I would be utterly amazed if this is the problem here.

A couple of questions to start things off:

    • Is it possible there are any firewall settings in SBS 2003 affecting this access ?
    • Have you tried setting up a share on one of your clients and using SMB port 139 to scan to that client?

  • Thanks for your help ! It's finally working !!

    • I corrected the country setting under Fax Settings, it didn't solve the problem (although it made disappeared the address book settings :smileywink:)
    • I tried to set up a share folder on a client, it's also working. I just messed up with the "server address" settings, between the "share name" (must be the name of the shared folder) and the "server path" (must only contains the subfolders which will receive the documents - and without the name of the shared folder) ... anyway it wasn't very clear to me
    Many thanks !!
  • Can you send me a PM with your email address?

I'd like to converse with you "off-line" and get a configuration page of the server setup page for my owne records..... to help other folks. Send me a PM and i'll email you with what I'm looking for.
