I purchased my Dell laptop in nov 2010 along with a dell v515 w printer. The printer was replaced once because I could not print from my Dell computer but from my Acer no problem. This was an ongoing problem up to today, it prints one day and then nothing. after contacting Dell Support and talking to12 different techs over a period of 6 hours on the phone it was fixed for two days. In my wisdom (shame on me) I purchased another Dell in Nov 2011. And yes guess what after three weeks it won't print, but my old Acer 10 years old will print. When I contact Dell Support they say it is a printer problem and send me to Printer support, who then say it is not a printer problem but a computer problem, but they will look at it if I pay because the printer is out of warranty. I am done with Dell & will no longer recommend them to anyone!
Can you tell me the make and model of your wireless router and the type of security you're using? What channel?
Make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit?
What virus program and firewall are you using on the problem computer?
What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

The router is from Verizon, it is Actiontec gt704wg. The 2011 computer is a Dell inspiron N411Z 64 bit using windows 7 The new 2012 computer is an Inspiron 3520 using windows 8. Mcaffee came installed on both computers. The problem is an intermittent one and happens to both computers but at different times. The Acer just keeps on working and its over 10 years old. To make matters even worse, I just installed a new black ink Cartridge and get the following error message: there is interference with black ink cartridge communication.
As you can tell Dell is not my favorite word at this time.
For wireless printers, I recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I usually recommend usinf a new SSID to make connecting easier.
On the problem computer, run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue. A stuck print job on the problem computer can cause problems, even if you uninstall the printer, then reinstall.
If you can copy a document, then the printer is working. The error message you describe may be caused by a Dell Series cartridge or an issue with the printhead.

Try these tweaks first...
Start, control panel, device manager.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Allow a printer past McAfee
If the tweaks don't help, we may have to reinstall the printer using this procedure...

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected to the computer.
WINDOWS 8 Press the Windows key and the x keys at the same time
Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V515 printer, unistall.
Restart the computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
With the computer online, insert the printer disk and install the printer. Choose network and if the printer is showing connected, choose aditional computer. If the printer is not connected, then choose new installation.
Remember to allow the printer past McAfee and your firewall. If using Windows firewall, it should be allowed.

i have installed new dell cartridges and cleaned the print head, but still receive a can't print error message. The ink level indicater on the display shows 0 ink in either the black or colour
i also have downloaded & installed the ltest firmware
My v515w printer does not print, I get an error msg that reads -cannot print until black, colour cartridges are replaced. I have replaced the cartridges twice with new Dell cartridges purchased at Staples, and still get the same message,
Ihave cleaned the print head, the display shows no ink

Dealing with the same error message here. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but this is the last time I purchase a Dell printer!
So over it. Might head to one of the above stores today to make a purchase to replace this expensive junk heap. I even would feel bad giving my V515w to family!
