Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens..

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Download and run the patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(a MUST on Vista machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

If using Windows 7 also try...Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

  • Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 9 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 9 color cartridge.

You are using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

It is possible to get a Dell Series 9 cartridge with a bad sensor. Contact the place of purchase for a replacement.

    Try using

Delete Print Jobs Hopefully afte you use it once, it should correct this. When you get ready to print, click on file, print and please make sure the correct printer is listed. I have had others have the wrong printer selected and sent the print file to the program or printer they previously used.

  • I downloaded the Vista driver, set the compatability to Vista SP2, and unzipped the file. When I launched the setup.exe it told me that the printer was incompatible with Windows 7. I repeated this using Vista SP1 and plain old Vista, all with the same results. Help!

  • lighting_guy,

    You were almost there.

Disconnect the pprinter. Download and run the patch(a Printer cleanup utility) and restart your computer when prompted.

Before you install the Vista drivers, right click on the drivers file, left click properties, compatibility and select SP2. Right click on the Drivers file and left click run as administrator.

The sometimes the files just unzip. Noe in the folder you'll see the setup.exe file. Right click on the setup.exe, left click properties, compatibility. Select Vista SP2. Now right click on the setup.exe file, then left click run as administrator.

You should then get the agreement and it will start to install the printer. Keep this going until yu see the message the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time.

My computer is up-to-date with all the above updates. I have run the removal patch several times. I've reinstalled many times. Un hooked, rehooked, unplugged, replugged. Rebooted, etc.

When I remove the program, including deleting drivers, folders, etc. there is no indication the removal patch has not worked correctly.

When I reinstall using Dell's latest driver for the aio 926, I consistenly see a short-lived message saying there was a problem in the installation and that the hardware might not operate correctly. There seems to be no information as to what the installation problem might be.

In terms of history, I was a month or so ago having spooling problems. The printer screen in control panel would show the printer non-existent. I used the Microsoft Fix-it button. That cured the problem for about three weeks. The fix-it button worked a couple more times when the printer would vanish. Now it's not a spooling problem but seemingly a USB communication problem.

I have Windows XP, Service Pack 3. The USB tree in Device Manager seems complete, and all drivers are up-to-date, including USB root hub and Host Controller and Enhanced Host Controller entries. When installed the USB Composite, All-In-One, Support lines are all present.

The printer's Service Tag number is:

First, can you copy a document when you put it under the glass? B&W and color?

  • Hi Rick,

I was able to copy and print in both color and black and white, directly from the scanner to the printer, but couldn't scan and print via the computer.

I have a Wintergreen computer with AMD Sempron 2000 MHz processor, 166 Mhz Bus,  SiS-741 Motherboard, Phoenix 6.00 PG, 1024 MB memory. The Operating System is Windows XP, with Service Pack 3. The high speed USB jacks in the front of the computer were unplugged two years ago due to a motherboard problem, but I haven't had any trouble to this point with the lower speed USB jacks in the rear of the computer.

    Thanks, Don

  • Don,

Since the printer can copy, we narrowed it down to drivers and computer issues.

Let's start with computer issues first,

Uninstall AMD USB Audio Driver Filter

To Uninstall AMD USB Audio Driver Filter

       1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.

       2. In the Control Panel window, click Programs and then open Programs and Features.

       3. Select AMD USB Audio Driver Filter, and then click Uninstall.

       4. Restart the system when the uninstallation is finished.

Uninstalling the AMD USB audio driver does not impact systems with Microsoft® Windows Vista® Service Pack 1 installed.

And uninstall NVIDIA's Network Access Manager, if you have it.

You then will need to disconnect the printer. Download and run the patch(a printer cleanup utility) and restart your computer when prompted.

Disable Virus programs and firewalls as they can cause problems. If you're not sure, then tell me the type of virus protection and firewalls you're using.

Then install the XP Drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer, powered on.

  • Hi Rick,

First, Windows XP doesn't have a Programs icon in Control Panel but does have a add or remove programs icon. The list of removable programs did not include either the AMD USB Audio Driver Filter or the NVIDIA's Network Access Manager. I was not able to find the first anywhere in Device Manager either. I'm rather confident this computer never had the NVIDIA program.

I'm not sure if this applies, but my computer has a separate sound card (Creative Sound Blaster) installed because the sound card built into the motherboard failed about a year ago. When I installed it, it was necessary to disable the multimedia audio controller. I also at that time uninstalled other audio software, which might have included the above AMD item you referred to(?).

Nevertheless, I did uninstall the printer driver using the Dell patch, disabled Windows firewall and AVG anti-virus, rebooted, ran Dell's R146832 driver install program, plugged in the USB cable and powered up the printer. Almost immediately after pressing the next button after hooking up the printer a balloon appeared above the task bar saying, "There was a problem installing the hardware, the hardware may not work properly."

    Still stumped, Don

  • Don,

Since we don't have any of the problems with the issues, the lets try removing the printer, first.

Go to start, all programs, Dell Printers, your printer and click on the uninstall, if it's there. Try runninf the patch to remove the printer. Also Manual Printer Driver Removal

    Then restart your computer.

Right click start, left click properties and look for the Program Files Folder. Look in there and make sure the printer is gone.  It not delete at this time.

Is this system a 32-bit or a 64-bit system? The XP drivers I have listed are for 32-bit.

  • Rick,

I've run uninstall from the start, program menu; made sure the drivers were deleted, rebooted, ran the Dell patch remover and deleted remaining Dell program files. And rebooted again.

This XP system is 32 bit. The Processor description is x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~1995Mhz

By the way, the BIOS is Phoenix 6.00 PG, 7/7/2004. Some support web pages I've looked at before wanted the date, and I hadn't been able to locate it before.

    Thanks, Don

  • Don,

Try this before installing the XP Drivers.

You cannot add a printer and you receive printer spooler error messages in Windows XP
