This question is not answered

Hi - how do I find out if my PC can connect to wifi rather than with a cable?  And if it cannot now, can I download an update to enable wifi?

thanks

  • Go into control panel and click on system. Go into device manager and click on the plus sign next to network adapters. Tell us what you have listed there. If you have a wifi adapter listed there then you can connect to wifi, but you will need access to a router to be able to connect. You need to tell us what operating system you have so we can assist you and what model computer you have.

  • Hi - thanks for the reply

The Network Adapter listed is : Broadcom Netlink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet,  I assume this is not a wifi adapter?

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium

The model is an Inspiron 570, 64 bit, AMD Anthlon(tm) IIX3 435 Processor

is that the right info?  Can I make it wifi compatable?

    Thx!

  • Yes you can make it wifi compatible. You can purchase a wireless network card or easier you can purchase a wireless usb adapter ie made by linksys.. But you would still need a wireless router to make it work in your home. You connect your modem to the the wireless router that would in turn send the wireless signal to the wireless usb adapter plugged into your computer.

  • Oh yes that is the right information. What you have listed is a regular network adapter. You currently do not have a wireless network adapter and would have to purchase one.

  • I have a Dell E521 computer.  When I go into the control panel, there is no system to click on

  • I would like to know if I have Wifi on my computer.  I went into the control panel system, but it does not show device manager on my computer.  I have a Dell E521 computer

  • Hi llongac,

Follow below steps to check if the computer has wireless card.

    Step 1:

Open the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."

    Step 2:

Type "Device Manager" in the search bar at the top right of the screen, then click the "Device Manager" heading that appears in the search results.

    Step 3:

Click the "+" symbol next to your desktop's name, and again next to "Network adapters."

    Step 4:

Click on the plus symbol to expand that category. Find WiFi Adapter which means that the computer has wireless connection on your computer.

If it does not show up in Device manager, there is no Wireless card on the computer.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

I would review your account and check if the wireless card was shipped with the computer.

Kindly let me know the status.

    Awaiting your response!

You can use any USB wifi adapter. I generally suggest to get one of same brand as your router.
