  • I intalled the driver 11/21/05 but when I checked to see if the driver updated it still said 1/7/04 it's like it's the same driver but the dates have just been changed.
  • Are you sure the new driver installed properly? Why do you think you need a new modem driver?

  • My connection hasn't been very good & I was hoping if I updated the driver that it would help.
  • If the connection was good in the past with the old driver, then unlikely a new one will solve the problem. What was the "good" speed, and what is it now?

    Time to troubleshoot:
Make sure cord between wall jack and modem is securely connected at both ends
Try a new cord between wall jack and modem, use shortest cord possible
Try disconnecting all other phones and answerers from this line, everywhere in house
Try connecting modem to different wall jack in the house
Open PC and carefully reseat modem in its slot
Contact telephone company and ask them to check your line. If voice service is acceptable, they probably won't do much to help you.

  • I actually have the Conexant HSF V92 56K Data Fax PCI Modem on my Dell Dimension 4400 and it keeps causing my computer to crash (Windows NT system).  This did not occur at all the first 18-24 months or so, but since has happened frequently.  Microsoft auto analyzer responds saying this critical error is caused by the modem requiring a new driver update - however, neither MS or Conexant websites have seemed to have an update for this modem driver.  I checked here and the only driver that matches this is dated 2001, which I am assuming is the original I have.  Is there another update for the driver available, or can I use one of the othersimilar Conexant drivers that are more recent?  Are there any other sites that might have the driver I require to make this critcal error go away?  Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
  • You might just try reinstalling the current driver, it case it got corrupted.

Conexant doesn't make modems, only the chips used to control modems. If you can figure out who actually made this one, you might be able to find a driver update at their site. Dell installed Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc in my 8400 that was made by Actiontec. You can look here for help identifying the maker (that's how I did it):

And here for some help with new drivers:

  • Thanks for the help - i will give that a try and see if it corrects it.  I am suspicious that this started when some patch or update changed some elements.  Appreciate the timely response - RMG
