Dell Inspiron M5030 Wifi Adapter disappeared.

This question is not answered

Hello,

Up until a few days ago I had perfect wifi, but then all of a sudden, my wifi adapter disappeared. It's not a matter of turning it off/on. It has disappeared from device manager too, showing only Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20). There used to be 802.11b/g/n WiFi thing there before.

I've tried system restore, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling windows. I succeeded for some time after I managed to update my Microsoft .NET Framework 4, and it worked until I went to sleep, but the laptop into sleep mode too, and in the morning it was gone again.

My friend is stumped also, who usually helps me when I get stumped by some problem.

Right now I'm writing this while basically sitting on my modem. The cable connection works just fine.

I'm running a win7 x32.

Can you please help me?

What virus program are you using?

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID, if using XP, run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

  • Deminius,

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

    Welcome to Dell Community!

  • My wifi adapter was spontaneously found and installed after the last reboot.

I had windows update install some things on my computer:

    ---------------------------------

Security updates for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on windows 7 SP1 x86

    Successful:

    KB2656411

    KB2656356

    KB2656373

    Failed:

    KB2604115

    KB2686831

    --------------------------------

    Updates for Windows 7

    Successful:

    KB2547666

    KB2545698

    Failed:

    KB2732059

    KB2735855

    KB2719857

    --------------------------------

Now my question is: What exactly had happened in the meantime and how can I keep from losing my WiFi again?

  • Bah!

It has disappeared from everywhere once again.

Did not install anything or mess around at all. Only put the computer to sleep and opened up some time later.

  • Deminius,

Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.

    Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

  • Can't access wireless in device manager, because it is missing. Not even hidden, I mean it, completely missing. I've tried already that drivers thing over and over as stated in my opening post. And yes I've used my service tag.

Power settings have wireless adapter on maximum performance.

  • Deminius,

If you're under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support. If not, if you're handy with a screwdriver, I would try and reseat the wireless adapter. INSTRUCTIONS HERE.
