Dell XPS 13 (9350) Screen Flicker

This question has been answered by DC

Just received the XPS 13 (9350) last week and I've been having some intermittent black screen flickering that normally occurs in short bursts of 4-5 short black outs within a span of two or three seconds. Tech support updated all the drivers and such, but I'm still experiencing the issues. Has anyone had similar issues and possible solutions?

I looked at previous posts and the screen flickering is not where it actually distorts things on screen, it literally just looks like it flashes on and off. Any help is appreciated!

  • Well said -

DELL are ignoring the problem - when the community know the answer.

Bottom line - return a great machine (arguments aside) and get a refund.

    OR

Bite the bullet - replace the card for £30 -

I am on my third machine - spent ages on Tech Support.
Decided to sort it myself - I fitted the new card.

  • I have a keyboard, mouse and ethernet hooked up to the usb and a 24inch monitor hooked up to the usb-c port.  The monitor will go blank from time to time and reopening the lid will bring it back up.  Every once in a while, I have to unplug the usb-c and replug in to bring the monitior back up.  I am using a VGA adapter.  If I use a hdmi adapter or a DVI adapter, the monitor goes berserk.   Today the laptop has started putting the printer off line.  If I get it on line, it says I need to reload the paper.    I have updated the drivers.

  • OK so I have a fix. This is caused by the WIRELESS driver for me.

To reproduce the issue: click the wireless button in the toolbar. The screen should flicker

    1. I updated all my network wireless, bluetooth, and my display drivers to the latest

    2. Opened the Dell Wireless 1820A driver properties in device manager.

    3. Under the 'advanced' tab, set 802.11d support (auto country) to Disabled.

    BAM. Problem solved.

  • BAM ! MitchieB: that is spot on - this answer did it for me right away (no reboot, just "bam"). I bet this saved me many hours. How you figured out, brrrr, I guess I just don't want to know. Many thanks for your post.

  • Had my motherboard replaced today but the problem still exists if I have that setting enabled on the wireless driver. So dell is going to replace the wireless card.  Will keep u posted

  • Have the same problem. Laptop connected to an external monitor via USB-C and screen flickers randomly.  Drivers are all up to date and disabled the 802.11d setting but still happens.  Can now reproduce the issue by running a youtube video in full screen on an external monitor.  Not keen on messing around with Dell support so appreciate the pain others are going through to get this fixed!

  • Hello,

The Dell XPS 13 9360 has also screen flickering bei enabled Hyper-V.

Is there any solution already ?

All Drivers are Up to Date....

  • Don't ask me why, but reducing the power option on the wireless card to 50% fixed my screen flickering AND dropped Internet issues. Good Luck

  • Colin,

You addressed this issue quite some time ago, but I'm having a problem with my XPS 13 9350 now.  I am using a USB-C to HDMI adapter and am experiencing intermittent flickering of both the laptop display and my external monitor.  The USB-C to HDMI is never seamless to begin with, but this is creating a bigger problem. It interrupts my work and moves applications around when it flickers.  I tried replacing the adapter, but am still experiencing the same problem.  I've also updated my BIOS, downloaded updates, etc. but nothing has resolved the issue.  Any other recommendations?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

  • We found that the problem is with the TB15 Dock, we had to change the POWER OUTPUT on the Wireless Adapter to 50%, there is a conflict with the Ethernet and Wireless adapters. We just recd replacement docks TB16's, but the power still can not be above 75%.  As soon as we reduced the power to 50% on the TB15's everything worked like a charm. Good Luck.

  • I've had issues with the wifi/bluetooth adapter.  I replaced it with an Intel  Dualband-Wireless-AC 7265
