Inspiron 7000 (7537) issues after Windows 8.1 update

This question is answered

I got my laptop updated to 8.1 and i found 2 issues so far:

1- my monitor tuns off after 30 minutes when plugged in, but doesn't turn back on. Happened twice and had to force shut down. (laptop wasn't on sleep)

2- keyboard and touchpad "Failed to start" after windows startup, so i entered the password using on-screen keyboard and restarted windows.

UPDATE!!     24-11-2013

seems that Intel finally solved the issue, released driver 3345.

go to Intel's system detect site and make it detect your system for updates: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

this update has numerous fixes and the most important is: Resolved black screen occurring when resuming from an automatic monitor off scenario.

  • I too am having the same issue with my 7537 laptop. Windows 8.1, all Dell drivers current, power setting all max and unit plugged in and A/C adapter lit up. I close the lid nightly because of cats in the house, when I get up, open the lid, nothing. Press power button and unit reboots. I big pain for a $1,000.00 machine. No one from Dell has gotten back to me despite numerous requests.

  • This seemed to have worked.  I haven't had issues after doing this,

    Hi,

Our engineering team is already looking at this issue and I noticed our support page is not updated with 8.1 drivers yet (Work is in progress). Meanwhile try the link below that has drivers for Win 8.1 (Search for supported OS - WB64A) and update the Chipset and Video drivers. Please write back with your findings that will be helpful for further investigation.

  • I can confirm that after the installation of the 8.1 drivers everything is solved.(But after bios update I had to reactivate windows)

  • I actually have the 17" version, the 7737. Anything else I need to try so the problem can be fixed?

    Thanks.

  • I'm having the same problems with my Inspiron 15 7000 after updating to Win8.1.

  • I have all drivers updated, all Windows 8.1 updates and still the same issue and NO HELP from Dell for a $1000.00 machine that keeps shutting down and/or no waking up with a/c adapter plugged in and all power setting on MAX performance (no action when lid is closed). I need some help.

  • I too am having the same problem after updating to Win 8.1.

  • Same thing here. I've tried all the instructions listed in this post but the problem still persists. I've lost important work several times because of this.

  • Same issue for me on the same laptop. It looks like it is an Intel driver problem, people with Vaios are having the same issue (I'm not spamming, it's the Sony community link: http://community.sony.co.uk/t5/PCs-Accessories/Vaio-pro-screen-sleep-issue-after-win-8-1/td-p/1391074).

I will try to update all of the drivers as adviced, I hope to solve this issue...

  • I seem to have resolved my issue with the freezing/shutdown when the screen closes. I installed the Intel video drivers from the Dell drivers website (Version 10.18.10.3304). It seems that either I installed a newer version of the driver from the Intel website or Windows update and this was causing the issue. Once I went back it was all good. I installed the driver last night and I had the laptop on the whole night with the lid closed and this morning the laptop was on with no issues.

  • I can confirm the fix, just go back to 3304 and everything will be ok.

  • I had this same issue on my 7537-4340SLV (Best Buy model). I had the problem with the default drivers that came on the device. I still had the problem when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I went into device manager and had it update the driver for the 4400 graphics by searching on line. It installed the newest driver .3316 (from the Intel site I believe). Still had the same problem. On a tip on another non-Dell forum, I went to the Dell support web site, looked under downloads for Windows 8.1 (specifically 8.1, not Windows 8) for my device and downloaded and installed the Graphics update from there. It was version .3304 -- newer than what came on the laptop, but older than the Intel site driver (at least based on trailing digits of the version number). No problems since then.

  • I have the same problem with my Inspiron 7737; when the display turns off as a result of the power plan settings, the laptop becomes unresponsive and the only way to recover is to turn the laptop off and on.

I posted here about this fault: "http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19531722.aspx".

I can confirm the fix, just go back to 3304 and everything will be ok.

    I can also confirm this.

  • Please answer when solution will be avaiable. PLEASE WORK ON IT FAST
