VGA out support Component Video?

  • I want to connect my Inspiron E1705 to TV using Component Video connections.  Does the VGA out support Component Video?

    My DELL system

    Inspiron E1705 shipped 04/09/06
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T2300:1.66hz

    2GB 533MHz RAM

  • You'll need a VGA to component video converter box or cable.

  • The video signal at the VGA output is suitable for connection to a TV only if the TV has a VGA input. The VGA video signal is analog and has separate red, green and blue components, but it is in a format for computer monitors.

If your TV does not have a VGA input but has a component video input, then you can get a component video output from the S-video TV-out connector of your Inspiron E1705 by using a special component video adapter that is available from DELL.

    Inspiron 1520 purchased 5 Feb 2008
    Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7250:2.0Ghz, 2MB cache, 800MHz FSB
    4GB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphics memory
  • Ok, I should connect to the the S-Video out and use an adapter to connect to Component video.

Will Dell's "S-Video to TV-Composite Cable with SPDIF Adapter for Dell Inspiron 1420" work on the E1705?

    (Dell Part# : 310-9359)

  • I expect that the component video adapter for the Inspiron 1420 will work on your Inspiron E1705. However you had better confirm with DELL unless somebody posts the answer here. I expect that the component video adapter I have for my Inspiron 1520 would work on the Inspiron 1420 and E1705 but I can't say for sure.

  • Thanks.  Everything work ok with your SPDIF digital audio cable connection?  Or do you recommend using the standard audio jack on the laptop?
  • Yes the digital audio connection works fine. Be sure to use a good quality coaxial cable to avoid interference on the TV. I use a Philips digital audio coaxial cable.

  • Thanks again.  I'll get one of those adapters ordered and give it a whirl.
