  • It isn't clear what you're asking.  Your system has hybrid video - intel and nvidia.  You can choose which applications use which video chip through the nvidia optimus control panel.

And no, the system DOES NOT have dedicated nVidia video - just about nothing does these days excepting the very high-end 17" mobile workstations and Alienware-class systems.

Everything has gone to hybrid video at the low-end and mid-range.

  • so.. why my graphic card doesnt appear when i type dxdiag : DirectX Diagnostic Tool/Display? I´ve choosen Nvidia Graphics but still saying that my display´s device name is INTEL (R) HD GRAPHICS FAMILY

should appear Nvidia graphics? doesn´t it?

  • No, because ALL the video in the system - nVidia or Intel - is funneled through the on-CPU Intel video circuit.   To any diagnostic, that's what will appear.

  • but in my other laptop appears Nvidia Graphics (is not a dell)

  • It depends on the type of graphics - is it dedicated nVidia as opposed to hybrid?

  • well i dont know what you meane..  i bought online with dedicated nvidia graphics,,and  i´ve choosen nvidia processor high performance in the control panel..

where can i see that i have my nvidia graphic card installed?

  • en.community.dell.com/.../19405027.aspx

  • i bought it thinking that i was buying it with a  dedicated video, would it work as a dedicated video?

or isn´t too good as one

  • No, it won't.  There's no way to disable the Intel video.

  • Thanks for replying.

  • its a way of making more sales to say "dedicated graphic chip on board"  this could easily be misunderstood as having dedicated graphics. I see many laptops using this type of spin to sale systems. The hybrid systems has got cooling issues when trying to play new games on just the graphic processor high performance.

  • Just about every notebook these days has hybrid video -- except for the very high end of the market with top of the line gaming systems and high-end workstations.

As for cooling, no -- not all systems have trouble with games -- however, there ARE systems that do when they're pushed into games they're just not designed to handle.
