  • Hi All,

I to am having a problem with my Inspiron 1570 integrated webcam.

Dell Webcam Central has been upgraded to latest version (v1.40.35)

Resource CD tests show USB Integrated Webcam and all tests for the camera pass

Device Manager not showing Integrated webcam as No Imaging Device section and nothing listed under USB

All I get under Webcam Central is 'No Supported Webcam', 'Please plug in a supported device'

As mentioned by PudgyOne (19/09/2011) the Dell Help pages state 'Contact Technical Support' if webcam not showing in device manager. Why can't Dell post the solution?

Anybody know how to get webcam listed in Device Manager?

    Thanks in Advance

  • Thanks Rick,

I tried setting compatability mode to Vista Service Pack 2 and also Windows 7 but no joy.

It seems strange to me that the camera is not detected in device manager, even when scanning for new hardware. It just gets ignored. I wonder if there is something strange in the registery that means that it is not picked up. The reason for saying this is that the Resource Disk is DOS based and it gets found when using this disk and passes all the tests so I know that the hardware is OK.

Any other thoughts on how to get the camera detected in Windows 7. Wonder if I can use an 'install new hardware' option to force the relevant drivers to load.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Regards

  • Trevor,

A couple of questions. Did you install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on this computer or did it come with Windows 7?

Start, control panel, device manager, imaging devices. What do you see there?

    Rick

  • Hi Rick,

The Laptop came with Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed

There is nothing listed in device manager under 'Imaging Devices' or under USB as Integrated Webcam.  There I think lies the problem in that Device Manager has not detected it.

    Cheers

    Trevor

  • Trevor,

If the compatibility trick did not work...

Locate the execute file (WebcamDell2.exe) buried in...

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Webcam\Dell Webcam Central

Right clicked on it, then left click properties, then clicked on the compatibility tab, then changed compatibility from windows XP to Windows Vista service pack 2 (the latest one they had).

Then contact Dell Tech Support. The computer is under warranty. Let me know the findings. I have a friend that track the solutions.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Rick,

Yup - It's back to my original post re 'Contact Dell Support'. Laptop is NOT under warranty so need Dell to post how to get webcam listed in Device Managertance from elsewhere.

    Trevor

  • I think that I have now made some progress:

When looking at 'System Information' [Start, Run, msinfo32] under 'Software Environment' I find that under usbvideo there is a USB Video Device (WDM) that calls for driver usbvideo.sys. This driver is shown as 'Not Started' and as 'Manual'.

The file usbvideo.sys is in the c:\windows\system32\drivers directory

I have run 'sfc /scannow' to see if that sorts out the problem but it doesn't.

On checking the registry there is no mention of usbvideo.sys but there are references to f!usbvideo.sys.

So the 64k dollar questions are:

    - How do I start the usbvideo.sys driver?

    - Do I risk changing all instances of f!usbvideo.sys in the registry to usbvideo.sys?

    - How do I reinstall usbvideo.sys?

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Regards

  • Some more info:

Starting Laptop in safe mode and looking at Device Driver I can see under 'Imaging Devices'

    -Laptop Integrated Webcam 1.3m

the following driver files are loaded

    -CtClsFlt.sys

    -ksthunk.sys

    -usbvideo.sys

Starting webcam central in Safe mode still get 'Please plug in a supported device'

    The plot thickens
