I slammed my dell inspiron n5040 lid shut

This question is not answered

it comes on but doesn't get past the "starting windows" page and also wont even go into safe mode. what can I do and the laptop repair has been going on for about 3 hours.

    I am sorry about the situation. I recommend you to reseat the HDD and check if the system boots normally. Please find the link below for the service manual.

    In case the issue persists even after reseating the HDD, run diagnostics on the system to rule out any hardware issues with the system. To run diagnostics restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F12 key every two seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system which may take around 5 minutes. Please reply to this post in case of any error message.

    If the system is not responding to F12 key, shut the system down, press and hold the Fn key on the keyboard and power on the computer which will launch diagnostics.
