Help Needed...New hard drive Studio 15

I have a Dell Studio 15 and the hard drive went bad. I've switched the bad HD with the new HD today but the computer isn't recognizing it. I'm not sure what to do now in the main setup utility screen. Its still showing the old hard drive and after searching the web I can't find the answer. When it comes to computers, I'm technology challenged, please help!

  • Hi Breeizme,

    Check if hard drive is re-seated properly. For installation of the hard drive, you may refer to the service manual of computer:

    Please ensure to follow the safety instructions in manual. 

    Once the hard drive is seated properly, you may check in system BIOS if the hard drive gets detected. To access system BIOS:

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as you see the Dell logo, start tapping the ‘F2’ key on top of the keyboard.
    • If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows appears, then continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Now shutdown your computer and try again.
    • After this a new window would appear. You can only use the arrow keys of the keyboard to navigate between the options as the mouse is not functional in this mode.
    • Check under Main tab if the hard drive gets detected in front of "Fixed HDD". If you do not find any option there, load BIOS defaults by pressing F9.
    • Press F10 to save changes and Exit.

    If the hard drive gets detected, you would need to re-install Operating system and drivers on it. For more information on Operating system re-installation, you may refer to link: http://dell.to/Qe7jyP
