Hard Drive unsuccessful, status 79

This question is not answered

I've a Dell Inspiron 1850 and when I switch it on the whole thing freezes a few seconds into loading up the desktop. It does the same in safe mode. Running a diagnostic it seems the problem is with the hard drive and I get an error status 79. Any suggestions?

  • Replace the hard drive - it's dying.

If you post the correct model number (there is no Inspiron 1850) someone can point to to the correct type of replacement.

  • Excuse me, it's a 1750. It's a UK model if that matters.

  • If the system is under warranty, call Dell with the error and they'll send you a replacement drive.

If the system is out of warranty, you will need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive to replace the faulty one.

  • Thanks. is that this one - http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=2.5%22+9.5+mm+sata+notebook+drive&cid=7543746635386746924&ei=YBKtTN23NpKkwAWY1fWYBA&sa=title&ved=0CAcQ8wIwADgA#p

  • Totally off-topic but don't you find it funny that you have to write:   2.5"  9.5mm?

I wonder what would the area unit be if you were to multiply the two Confused ?
