How do I repair a deflated Dell Inspiron 1525 touchpad left 'mouse' button?

This question is answered

I feel sure that this problem is not new! I have a two-year-old Dell Inspiron 1525 and the onboard left 'mouse' button which is part of the touchpad has flattened and no longer springs back up to its rightful place. How do I go about gaining access and repairing this problem? The laptop is not under warranty. Thanks.

p.s. I have been using a USB mouse for some time and wish to go back to using the onboard touchpad and its buttons.

  • Wow, that was quick. Thank you very much.

  • ...just to replace a spring??? Mine left button is going flat and I am tempted to just pry it off like a key cap... any suggestions?  J

  • You can do that, but there are no individual replacement parts available.

  • You can just get the buttons

  • If you "pry it off like a keycap", you'll not only ruin the button, but the entire touchpad which will then cost you the entire top of the laptop case as the touchpad is part of the case! Best to disassemble everything properly, IF you have the skills to do so, and replace the mouse button parts that are broken. If you don't have the necessary skills to undertake the major disassembly required (removal of the monitor, keyboard, bezel, top half of case, several subassemblies, etc) then leave the repair to a professional.

    Best of luck!
