Dell Dock language file failed to load

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Each time I turn it on the following message appears - "The Dell Dock's language file, which is necessary for its operation, has failed to load. Please check your Dell Dock installation." I've poked around on here a bit, but haven't been able to figure out how to fix this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • The easiest solution, would be to reinstall the Dell Dock.

    Before you do though, make a copy of the 'DellDock' sub-folder - located in My Documents/Dell.

    After you've reinstalled the program, replace the new DellDock folder with your old one, and everything should be back to how it was before you reinstalled?

  • I am having the same problem.  I tried to download the dell dock to reinstall, but my computer is not allowing me to do so.

  • I also am having this problem.  In my case I was able to reinstall and everything appeared to complete as intended.  But upon restart I got the same message again and no Dell Dock functions.   Did not change anything.

    Can anyone help?

  • thanks for the suggestion.  Nothing helpful on Google.  After more than an hour with a Dell technician manipulating my system including uninstalling and reinstalling several times with different permutations we finally did a system restore, which solved the problem.  Frankly, I'm not sure Dell Dock is worth the effort as all the programs are still available using the normal programs navigation technique.

    This is probably the best advice. Never had a problem with Dell Dock simply because I never used it beyond having a quick look. Just unistall that bloatware - will also streamline your system a bit.

  • This is answered elsewhere, but here's what I found.  Go to the \Program Data\Dell\DellDock\Eng directory (take note -that's \Program Data\, not \Program Files\).  You'll probably only see BaseCatagories.xml.  You also need BaseSettings.xml, Default.lang.xml and uninstaller.xml.  Grab them from one of the other language directories (I used the frech ones).  If you want the menus, etc. in English instead of the other language you picked, you'll have to edit the Default.lan.xml file. you'll see sets of lines like:

    <original>Delete category?</original>

       <translated>Supprimer la cat├ęgorie ?</translated>

    Change all the lines that start with <translated> to read <translated></translated> (you're removing the translated text).  This will force Dell Dock to use the English text in the lines starting with <original>.  

    The other files will still contain text in a foreign language, so you may still see some things in the wrong language.  The other files don't seem as simple to edit, so I haven't attempted that yet.

  • It was very disappointing that DELL is not looking at this problem ..   Well I have the solution which never failed but this dell people when you call them that take your computer on remote for hours and they dont know the solution ........
