Reset/change BIOS password w/out removing hardware

This question has been answered by ejn63

I have an Inspiron 5100 that I'm selling to a friend and want to remove the BIOS and harddrive password I set on it.  I know the passwords.  I can't remember the keystroke to get into the BIOS.  I tried hitting F2 alot after keying them but it immediately goes to the Windows logo.

So my questions are

1. How or Can I get into the BIOS after keying the passwords?  Since theres where I set them, I'm hoping thats where I can remove them.

2. If not, is there any other way to do it from the Windows interface, without having to pull hardware?

Thanks.

  • F2 is the trip to get into the BIOS.  Press it immediately at powerup.  To remove the password, enter the original, and then change it to a blank password and save.
