BIOS update - Inspiron 6000 laptop

  • Hi,

I have to replace the 40G hard drive in my Inspiron 6000 laptop.  I want to replace it with a 120GB HD. I read somewhere in this forum that the BIOS should be updated to support a 120GB HD.  How do I update BIOS?

    Thanks.

    Jo

  • You should not need to update.  If you do, see:

  • Hi,

thanks for the reply.  The statement I say about updating the BIOS to support a larger hard drive said that Dell changed the BIOS for the inspiron 6000 about Oct. 2005.  I bought my Inspiron in July 2005.  Do you know if the statement about the BIOS change is correct?

  • What version BIOS are you using?  If you have A07 (released 6/27/2005) or A08 (released 7/22/2005), you should be okay.  I looked at what was changed in the BIOS and nothing was mentioned about a HDD.
