will somebody please tell me what is going on? i downloaded the BIOS update straight from the dell website and i'm 100% sure it's the right update for my OS. what is going on here? the dell rep. wouldn't help me install the update until i renewed my warranty which currently isn't an option.
Hi,
Welcome to the community
Just a curiousity, why do you need to update BIOS, is there a current problem? How many times have you tried the update? Can you try to reseat drives (Hard drive and Optical),memory and battery. If same thing happens, possible motherboard failure.

I want to update the BIOS do enable virtualization. Right now my BIOS versions is A04 which is really out of date. Why is the revision and vendor coming up empty?
I remember that other users had the same problem. and in some cases removing one of the memory modules fixed it.
So if you have 2 memory modules remove one of them and give it another try.
Here is one of the latest threads about BIOS update problems:

i'll give that a try and let you know what happens. thank you.
still didn't work. any other ideas? this is really frustrating.
According to user "FIXYOURPROBLEMS" there should be only ONE memory module inside the laptop and - I can't find the thread anymore- the memory module should be only a one or two GByte one.
I've never tested it myself, can't prove it......
i have two memory modules and i tried removing one and flashing after and it still didn't work.
If you google your problem you will find a lot of threads from users struggling to get the BIOS updated.
Here is just one from another desperate user who obviously succeeded by running CMD

Never forget: after a failed BIOS update you can take your laptop either to a scrapyard or spending some money on a new mainboard.....
If you tried the steps we posted, and still the same error, this is a motherboard failure. Either you have it replaced or stick with the current BIOS. Is this under warranty? Dell can replace parts if you have an active warranty.
