When I press F2, nothing happens, when I press F8 or F12 it freezes until I press any key then it will boot normally. I read on different forums that this is an issue for the related models 1555-1558, I heard that this may be a hardware problem, I also took the cmos battery out to reset it and nothing happened. What can I do to fix this issue? thanks for any input.
When trying to access the BIOS, F8 or F12 menu slowly tap them, it is possible to hang the keyboard at boot so you can't get to these menus.
Other than that It may well be a hardware problem. I suggest disconnecting the battery, any cards, any external USB devices, even the hard drive and all but one stick of memory, and try loading the BIOS using the F2 button. If you are able to load the BIOS I suggest resetting it to default settings. Choose the Exit tab and then select Load Setup Defaults and select yes. Then select Exit Saving Changes. You may get a message about the missing hard drive which is to be expected. Shut the notebook down and install the reaming memory and test again. Then try the harddrive and test and see if you can first get into the BIOS and then boot to Windows.
If you find that now you are able to access the BIOS all the time I do suggest trying to load diagnostics. Start the notebook tapping F12, again type slowly and if you are able to access the boot menu choose diagnostics. If the diagnostics pass and you are able to boot to either of these screens the notebook is fine.

I took the hard drive out and press f2 but it didn't go to the bios, it automatically booted from the cd which I wanted but with no hard drive it was pointless. do you have any other suggestions?
