PXE Boot on Latitude E6420 with BIOS A08 and Intel Boot Agent 1.3.76

This question is answered

We have a new batch of laptops from Dell that will not get an address from DHCP during PXE Boot.  Our previous batch, which had BIOS A06 and Intel Boot Agent 1.3.72 on them worked fine.  Has anyone else seen this issue?

  • We confirmed today that it is something funny going on with the BIOS.  We ended up downloading the A06 version of the BIOS and flashing back to it.  After that the clients were able to PXE boot.

  • Spoke with a Dell technician, and found that the new Intel Boot agent is not compatible with spanning-tree. I changed the ports on the switch to spanning-tree portfast and now the Dell 6420 and Optiplex 790 PXE boot fine.
