I am currently in the process of swapping a mainboard in a 1745. The original has the intergrated intel video chip and my new board has the ATI chip. So I need to get the cooling system for the new board but i am having issues finding the part # for the GPU heatsink. So I hope my question is a easy one.
I just need the part# for the GPU heatsink. I already have the correct cpu heasink but I cannot for the one for the GPU. So if anyone can get me the part# or point me in the direction of someone who will have the part I'm looking for, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
OK folks I think I have figured it all out. So after some research I think i have the correct part #.
Using this as a reference I started looking at parts for 1745 but as you can see this manual also covers 1747, so i started searching for the 1747 parts. Looking at the heatsink for the 1747 that I found I could tell it wasen't what I was looking for BUT I saw a listing for a releated item (I was on ebay at the time). That was for a 1749 CPU heatsink with a Dell part # G406T.
This visually looks like what I need so I have ordered it along with C630T which is the actuall CPU heatsink for the unit.
So in closing if you have p/n G913P mainboard in your 1745 and you get p/n J502P (Same board with upgraded graphics) you will also need p/n's C630T and G406T to complete the coversion. Of course I'm still waiting on the parts but I am fairly sure this will work. Will post back if it does not.
I don't know anyone that sells the GPU without the heatsink.
There may be some Dremel modification required to get the ATI heatsink/dual Heatpipe setup to fit into the case.

No,I have checked and everything will fit i just need the part. BTW the GPU is integrated on the mainboard and I just couldn't get the exact mainboard to replace it with so i got a compatible part I just need that little heatsink. Everywhere I look suggest that it needs to be there but nobody seems to actually have it.
Thats because Legit vendors sell the GPU with the heatsink attached.
I don't think you are understanding the issue. This is a laptop, I got a compatible mainboard from another version of the studio 1745 that has better video. That better video requires better heatsink and that is what I'm looking for. If you are suggesting that it should have come with the mainboard then you are mistaken as a laptop mainboard is not commonly sold with the cooling solution.
I am a laptop technician, I work almost exclusively with notebooks so I am not looking for a lesson on how vendors should work. I simply could not locate a part # for the heatsink I am looking for in any of the material I have found on this laptop so I came to these forum hoping a experienced technician would understand that all I need is a part # and be able to produce it for me.
I was not looking for someone to suggest that either me or the vendors I deal with on a daily basis are somehow not "legit".
You might try emailing parts-people.com -- they should know what the part number is.
Thanks, I will send them a message. Hopefully they can help. I will post back if I can find the #
Hi I am just wondering on how you made out in the end. I understand everything your speaking about. I have a little of the same going on. I have a studio 1745 that has a burnt out video, which of course has killed the board. By mistake, it seems I purchased a 1747 I7 motherboard. I was going to ship it back, but I continue to look, it is almost the same. My thought is to use a I7 CPU with the correct 1747 heat sink. I believe like you that It should all work and leave me with a 1747 for less money than just purchasing the correct 1745 board. I would welcome your thoughts.
