Ok I went to school a billion years ago for computer repair and never used that part of my degree. I recently bought a dell inspirion 1501 from a friend of mine. The computer is running Vista basic 32-bit. i have no disks but, my friend has a dell inspirion 1525, these are the driver & utilites, windows and application media direct. I have MY product key as I found it on my computer. erase everything and start new what so I need to do? I have no a:/ floppy drive to use a bootable diskette (that I still have a ton of, haha)
Thanks in Advance,
Alex
If the system is as shipped, use the quick restore - if XP, press CTRL and F11 together at the Dell screen. Follow the prompts.
If it's Vista, press F8, choose Repair from the menu, then Restore.
First of all thank you for your help. I am running a system diagnostics now. When I restarted F8 was not a option it was F2 or F12..I am running Vista 32 bit basic. I want to erase all the other guys information. He has to many programs to try and uninstall all of them. He also had three antivirus softwares running at the same time.
F8 must be pressed AFTER poweron self test and before Windows begins loading - it is NOT a BIOS-level trip key (which F2 and F12 are).
I will try as soon as diag. quits running. Thanks for your patience.
system recovery options: asking for password for admin. I can also change to a guest
reformatting to factor image condition. Thank you for your help. Hopefully I will not need any more help.
Thanks again!!
I am new to this community - so Hi! to everybody! I have an Inspiron 1520 and noticed that my Recovery D is almost full - well the warning is red - what should I do with this and what is down the road that I don't know yet - I am not, by no means, a computer literate person and need your help.
