I have received My E6400 a week agao. This system is awesome.
However the screen has considerable play. They have advertised as the hinges as among the best and robust. I have an old Latitude D 505, and it does not have so much play. Also you can tighten the hinges if required. My father as an XPS M1210 and the Lcd also doesnt shake.
DELL Tech support says that so much play is acceptable.
Has any one else experienced this? Is the increased amount of play vis a vis the old systems acceptable ?
Try tightening the hinge's screws. The E-series uses a new kind of hinge, so it is possible that the wobbling is normal.

Thanks for the reply Robin.
But it isnt working, the hinge design is very different. The D series which I have D 505 we could tighten the screws , but this has no effect even after tightenning whichever available screws.
When I went through the service manual I saw one more procedure. I dont know whether it would help.
Can I try to tighten this hinge screws?
This system is superb except for this wobbling.
I have an E6400 demo unit here and I can tell you that the hinges should be tighter than the D505 you have. What kind of warranty does your E6400 have? It may be worth it to have Dell come out and replace those hinges or atleast send you new ones.
I have worked on hundreds D-Series laptops (we have completecare etc, but sometimes it is more fun to take it apart yourself :P) and the E6400 hinges should be about the same (if not better) as a brand new D630.
I asked DELL to replace my system. Now the hinges are good! The first one definitely had a problem.
But the surprising part is even after sending a video of the shaking hinges, they said that so much play is ok.
Anyways, alls well that ends well.
