Audio Driver dell inspiron 1525 Windows XP

  • Hi I just installed windows xp on my 1525 laptop, I installed all the drivers that I found on the download page from dell, after I finished I found out that I was missing the following driver

Audio device on high definition audio bus

This is the detail on the properties window

     HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1095&DEV_1392&SUBSYS_10280242&REV_1000\4&21C1B09&0&0101

  • I have the exact same problem.  Did you ever find a resolution?

  • Hello,

Dell computers require that the install be done in the correct order or you can all sorts of problems.

I will copy the list below. Make sure that you install the NSS file, and the Chipset file while the system is booted into safe mode.

Note: Some devices may not function properly if the drivers are installed out of order.

    Install your version of Windows.

Install the following software and drivers in the order listed below.

***** 1.***** Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling the operating system or updating all the computer’s drivers, it is imperative that this software be installed first.
Currently, the DSS and NSS are not required for systems with Windows Vista installed. This is located under the System and Configuration Utilities Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    2. Chipset - Helps Windows control system board components and controllers. This is located under the Chipset Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    3. Video Adapter - Enhances video performance. This is located under the Video Adapter Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    4. Network Interface Card (NIC) - Enhances the network controller for Internet or network access. This is located under the Network Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    5. Audio Adapter - Enables and enhances the audio controller. This is located under the Audio Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    6. Modem - Allows dialup capability. This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    7. Wireless Network Card - Enables and enhances the wireless network controller. This is located under the Network Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    8. Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards - Enhances the pointing device features. This is located under the Mouse & Keyboards Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    9. Other Devices
    * Bluetooth Module
This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    * Dell Wireless Mobile Broadband Cards
This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    * PCMCIA/Smartcard controller
This is located under the Security Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.

Dell drivers and downloads page http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/.

NOTE: If your system download page offers a DSS or NSS file in the 'System and Configuration Utilities' Category. And you have already tried to install some drivers, you will need to reboot in Safe Mode to install the DSS or NSS file, and the chipset. Then reboot the system and install the rest of the drivers in the correct order.

  • Welcome to the forums you two Wink

    Try these drivers?

There are actually newer drivers available - namely 6.10.5405_V73... but I can't vouch for them working under Windows XP, since they're listed for Vista only?

Another option worth considering, is using DriverMax - a FREE program which check the drivers currently installed, and provides links to any available updates.

It also allows you to backup the installed drivers, so you can do a roll-back using the backup file, should any of the updates not work Cool

  • Thanks for the responses!  Thereal-dbk4297, I did install the drivers in the order you listed.  As it turns out, my XP install had SP2 in it and there was an issue with the Version of the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver that comes with XP SP2.  I found a fix for the issue somewhere else on the forum (I forget exactly where), but the reference is to Microsoft KB888111.  You have to request the hotfix from MS, download it and then extract the version that applies to your OS.  The hotfix is a preinstall and must be installed prior to installing the Dell drivers, but it was worth it!

Here is the order that I installed Windows XP on the Inspiron 1525 that resolved the issue:

    1. OS install of XP SP2.

    2. KB888111 hotfix for XP SP2.

    3. Dell Driver installation as listed above by Thereal-dbk4297.

Everything is working without issue now.  Thanks!

You should've started your own thread to ask that question, instead of piggy-backing onto someone else's... especially when your problem is completely unrelated to the one discussed in here Idea

Anyways... try going into the BIOS, and changing the SATA operation mode from AHCI to ATA?

  • Hi,

           Thanks for pointing it out!.

  • The driver for this device is in the Video driver. In my case, the HDMI folder in R180043.exe.
