Inspiron 1501 does not recognize battery

  • Whenever I start my laptop, a message appears saying that the computer cannot locate the battery and it will be unable to charge it.  When I press any key to continue, I see that the battery is recognized and does charge.  Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it?
  • Try a different battery and see if the problem goes away.

  • Been using same laptop since December.  Just started getting battery not recognized message on start.  Requires me to bypass.  Battery is 100% charged and I have no clue as to fix.  Buy another battery to "try it" seems non responsive.
  • Unfortunately, I don't know of any other way to tell for sure whether its the battery or the computer that is acting up in this case.  You may not have to buy another battery.  Dells are fairly common and you may be able to find somebody else with the same model laptop as you and you can borrow the battery for the test.  If it works, then you can invest in your own replacement battery.

If you laptop was bought in December, then you should be under warranty and you can call Dell tech support to get the battery replaced under warranty.

  • Thanks for the reply Baliji.  As long as the battery is working, I will put up with the nonsense, but I would have thought there was better engineering between software and hardward.
  • Thank you for the reply.

  • You are both welcome, and good luck.
