Screeching sound from the laptop (Inspiron 15R (N5010) speakers

My Laptop it starts a shrill screeching as soon as I unmute it. As a result I cannot listen to anything on the laptop.
Is this because some kind of speaker and mic settings on the laptop have been changed? If yes, what should the settings be changed to? Please help!

  • I have no idea how to fix this, but the exact same thing happens to me, intermittently, usually right after I use headphones. IT'S KILLING MY EARS, seriously.

  • Has anyone contacted Support about this? I don't know what can be done software-wise except to re-install the audio driver, or update to the newest one if you don't already have it -- IDT R280657 audio driver dated 5-13-2010

  • I got my PC a month back and logged the complaint on crakling speakers the very next working day.  They replace the speaker twice and now they have replaced the whole machinery, like speakers, sound card, motherboard, of the laptop but issue stays like that. I'm begining to think that the parts used by dell are just not of quality.
