No Multimedia Audio Controller on Inspiron 6000

This question is not answered

Using a clean install, I installed Windows 7 on my Inspiron 6000 laptop. Now I do not have sound. According to the Device Manager, I do not have Multimedia Audio Controller.  How do I get this controller?

  • The sigmatel Vista drivers will work with 7.

  • ejn63,

That driver is for some Sigmatel 92xxHD audio chips. The Inspiron 6000 had the earlier AC'97 chip and as far as I know an HD driver will not work on AC97.

    jomalone,

If that driver does not work try this method:

Download the Vista32 Sigmatel audio driver for the Inspiron 6000, R99254.

Install it using Vista compatibility mode. Download the driver package using the browser, not Dell Download Manager. Extract the files (unzip or unpack) but cancel the installation process. Go to the hard drive to
    c:\Dell\Drivers\R99254
Right click on setup.exe and select Properties. Find the compatibility tab to select Vista.

  • To install the audio driver into an Inspiron 6000 with Win7,

Delete all audio driver files from the hard drive and download the Sigmatel audio driver R99254.

Extract the files (unzip or unpack) to the suggested default location. Write down the location -- most probably will be c:\Dell\Drivers\R99254.

If the automatic installation process begins, cancel it.

Go to the hard drive to where you unzipped the files.

Find the setup.exe file and right click on it. Select the Properties. Find the compatibility tab and select Vista.

  • Windows 7 has "Sound Video & Game Controllers" in Device Manager -- as far as I know not "Multimedia Audio Controller".
