My Dell N5050 makes kind a strange submarine-type sound every few minutes when left on but not in use. Can someone advise what this is and how to eliminate? Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to the community
What is your operating system? Did you install any updates or application prior the problem?
What kind of noise? Hissing, static or beeping? Brief me more about the issue so I can guide you to the right directions. Glad to help!
Cheers!

Thanks Elijah. It's kind of a sonar sound. Doesn't sound like static or hissing. Just kind of an underwater sonar type blip. We have a wireless router nearby, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Sorry, forget to mention that OS is Win7 home edition.
Okay thank for that information.
I think we need to reinstall the Audio Driver (IDT) Here is the link ;

Download file and reinstall it, then restart the computer. Observe and test if its the same.
Thank you. Since this is a brand new computer, we want to speak with Dell first before trying.
Alright, if you need to contact DELL, the number is 1-800-456-3355.
Feel free to reach me out if you need my assistance, glad to help!
