Recently I've been having some problems playing back any sort of media. At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume. This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything. If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.
I'm using an Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 64-bit, SP1.
I've tried everything I could think of, updating all my drivers, reinstalling codecs, running anit-virus, and cleaning out my system. I've found that sometimes the lag corresponds to spikes in my DPC latency, but sometimes they don't, and I can't find out what's causing the spikes. I've tried most of the solutions here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/19142484/19265470.aspx#19265470 ,but nothing seems to have helped, and I'm getting a bit desperate.
THank you for the advice. It works! Here's a copy of what works.
I ended up going to my device manager---- clicking the little arrow to the left of 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers----clicking on Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI controller----going to the driver tab and selecting roll back driver....This changed it to: version 220.127.116.113 date= 04/06/2009.........After a restart it's CURED!
The music sounds so much better without that buzzing sound.
Bingo! It worked. I can now enjoy music on the lap top again! Thanks!
I have this problem also. It started when I saw the following in the 'loading' field at the bottom of the screen. The area that shows the site loading would constantly flicker, as if it was trying to load, but couldn't.
In researching this, I read that it comes from Facebook, and that they are working on the problem. It also stated that it has been occuring since late 2010. Seems that Dells are prone to this 'XD Proxy' problem.
If anyone can get this fixed, I hope it's soon.....as I am afraid it will damage my computer, which is only 2 years old.
I'm using The XPS M1330, upgrade to win 7 34-bit. it work fine all along, but recently it started the same problem that you mention. Any expert out there can help? Thanks a lot .
My problem started whit the SP1 update.I instaled the windows again and never did update the SP1 .I have now 6 months without any problem.SP1+ DELL=AUDIO-VIDEO PROBLEMS
Thank you thank you thank you! I tried every other possible solution to deal with this very vexing problem but your was the only one that worked for my configuration! I can not express how wonderful it is to watch videos or listen to music without that incrediably annoying skip, stutter, whatever you want to call it ruining my inner calm. I do appreciate everyone's suggestions and solutions posted on this thread.....I'm just so happy one of them finally worked for me! Goodnight everyone and an especially good night to MizoMizo for saving my computer from an untimely death by hammer!
What do you do if you don't have McAfee?
I downloaded Microsoft Security Essesntials which works just as well and it was FREE! It's fun to play on my computer again without that awful skipping problem! Good luck!
I already have it (for over a year now). Think I should delete and download again?
Already have which one...McAfee or Microsoft Security Essentials?
Did you try the other fixes from earlier blog entries for this problem? Removing McAfee fixed my skipping problem but it might not fix yours, so I'd advise you to look at the older posts and try the other fixes before uninstalling and reinstalling MS Essentials. Sadly this problem seems to happen on all different makes and models of computer so what worked for me might not work for you. Good luck!
I have tried 2 others; neither worked. I'm at a loss right now. May have to get a tech in.....it's so annoying! Thanks for your help anyway.
Try contacting Mick Barker Sr. from the earlier posts. One of the bloggers sent him their system configuration and he was able to help them maybe he could help you too. He sounds like he really knows whats going on inside a computer. It's worth it to give him a try before you pay for a tech's help. Good luck! Let me know how you do!
Thank you, Tinman39! I'll look him up.......this buzzing is driving me crazy, and the frustration of trying so many 'fixes' that don't fix is maddening! Thank you again for your help. I'll let you know what happens!
