I would like to add a 2nd and third SATA hard drive to my Studio XPS 9100. I cracked her open and found the power cord with two additional plugs for the HD, but no SATA connection for the 2 additional drives I wish to install. Yup I know I have one external SATA plug in the back but I have plans for that.
Any help in pointing me in a direction would be great.
The primary SATA connections on the Studio XPS 9100 face toward the edge of the main board. There are two blocks, each block containing two SATA connections. Take a look here:
12 V power connector (ATX_12V)
memory module connector (DIMM4)
memory module connector (DIMM1)
memory module connector (DIMM5)
memory module connector (DIMM2)
memory module connector (DIMM6)
memory module connector (DIMM3)
main power connector (ATX1)
SATA connector (S_SATA1)
SATA connector (S_SATA2)
front panel USB connector (FUSB_4)
front panel USB connector (FUSB_5)
front panel connector (F_PANEL)
SATA connector (S_SATA3)
front fan connector (PWR_FAN)
front panel USB connector (FUSB_3)
password reset jumper (CLR_PWD)
front panel USB connector (FUSB_1)
CMOS reset jumper (CLR_CMOS)
top panel USB connector (FUSB_2)
S/PDIF connector (SPDIF_IO)
badge back-light connector (JPWR)
top panel audio connector (F_AUDIO)
PCI card slot (PCI_1)
PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X3)
battery socket (BATTERY)
PCI Express x16 card slot (PCIE16_1)
PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X2)
PCI Express x1 card slot (PCIE1X1)
PCI Express x8 card slot (PCIE8_2)
chassis fan connector (SYS_FAN)
processor fan connector (CPU_FAN)
The SATA connections are in the blocks marked 10 and 11. The list of identifying information is in error by not showing that each block has two ports, one above the other in this view. The first block has SATA 0 and SATA 1, the second has SATA 2 and SATA 3. The one port oriented vertically is SATA 4, giving you a total of five internal ports.
