Reason for location of MFT and difficulty it poses to shrinking C partition ???

This question is not answered

After reading the steps needed to shrink the size of  the C partition I was wondering what is the reason Microsoft puts the Master File Table (MFT) where it does on the C partition???

If there is a good reason, is there any possible risk to moving it through successive shrinking required to get the C Partition down to a smaller size??

  • Hi mouln

There are 3 MFT files on my c:\ partition 1 near the front and 2 close to the center i read on the Microsoft Vista or Win 7 forum i cant remember witch one tho if you try to move them it may not let Windows start after a reboot so i would be very careful with the software you use , if you are using windows disk manager to shrink the partition it will only let you go down to a safe point .

But to be safe on what you try you need to do a lot of reading before you do anything to your drive !
