Studio 1537 DVD Drive Problem

This question is not answered

Hi,

I am unable to read any form of CD/DVD that I put into my CD Drive, when I insert the CD it doesnot spin, and when I click on the Icon in My Compputer, it says "Please insert a disc into Drive E:" and then ejects the CD. The CD Dive is bootable, as I booted a linux Live CD off it, but reinstalling the drivers does nothing, as does system resotre

Thanks

  • Ewan:

It would be helpful to know the model of your Dell, your operating system, and the model of the CD drive (hint, check device manager). While you are in device manager, see if there are any errors listed next to your drive.

@ Ewen:  Try removing/uninstalling the drive in Device Manager, and rebooting the laptop?

If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the chipset drivers?

  • Thanks for the advice :-)

Ive tried the above but to no avail, the problem has got worse, I tried booting to the supplied Vista DVD and the DVD drive just wont read it, it spins up, then sort of markes a buzzing noise, then does nothing until I press the eject problem. I think the DVD drive has died. How do I go about getting a new one? I am a trainiee Avionics Engineer (Aircraft Elecrtrical) so I should be able to fit it myself. The laptop is only 5 months old.
