Eject DVD from slot drive

  • I just got an xps 1530. I inserted a dvd into the slot drive and copied some files from the DVD to the 1530. No problems so far. But how do I get the DVD out of the slot drive? Obviously there are no buttons to push -- how do I get the computer to eject the DVD???

  • pressing fn and f10 did not work. I did find the answer though - go to computer and right click on the drive and in the drop down list "eject" is listed.
  • STUCK DVD and blue FN + F10 will not work.

Go to COMPUTER in START menu, select right hand mouse drop down key then EJECT on drop down list.

Absurd that this common problem is not more prominent on the Dell website with an easy search.

  • Hi Zazzi,

Sounds like you're having problems with your DVD drive. Can you tell me the model of your Dell and the drive?

  • Hi Osprey4

    Now sorted, thank you.

It is a Dell Studio Laptop 1737.

  • Ok, good to hear.

  • Just wanted to share my situation in case it helps others. I foolishly put a Blu-Ray disc into my DVD Only slot drive (i bought the machine a long time ago so forgot that I went for the cheap option). Because it didn't recognise the disc there was no D:\ drive showing on windows explorer. This meant I had nothing to right click on and so couldn't eject the disc. BTW the eject button on the laptop itself has never worked.

In the end I simply typed d:\ into windows explorer and it now appeared on the menu so I could right click and eject.
