How can I do the Factory Image Restore in my Dell Inspiron 1501 (Vista32) if the Advanced Boot Options Menu is not working?

Hello!

When I reboot and press F8 or press Ctrl + F11, the Advanced Boot Options Menu doesn't come up.

The Factory Partition (drive D), is there, in my hard disk, untouched as it came from factory. I can explore it using windows explorer without any problem.

The OS is Windows Vista 32.

When I reboot and press F2 or F12 the Bios menu starts, but just the right arrow, page down and enter keys work.

What can I do then? Can I start the Advanced Boot Options Menu from the hard disk partition (D:), or can I restore this menu to make it work as it worked when it came from the factory?

I don't have the DVD to restore my system from the CD/DVD player.

  • Hi jcvalente,

    As the system is booting to Windows, I suggest you to check the functionality of the F8 key in Notepad or MS word. It could be a problem with F8 key.

    As you are not able to do a PC restore, I suggest you need to reinstall the Windows in your computer which will need operating system disk and resource DVD for drivers.

    Note: Please do backup all the files and all the required information and software on an external hard drive before PC Restore.

  • I have query  in this.. Installing os (in my case its windows 8) again form wouldnt remove the factory installed hidden partions like  pbr image , WINRETOOLS ,DIAGS and ESP??

  • It depends on how you did the install.  The default windows 8 install will clear out the drive before the reinstallation begins.

  • Run from your Windows8 disk.In the initial stage ,it will ask for to keep the files & settings or not.Select Yes  & when you  your PC restarts ,you will have the option to select the Installation partition & select a clean partition [ where no OS or files are included].After installation of Win8 completes,backup your recovery drives in to a USB using Acronis TrueImage or DriveImageXML.& delete your OLD OS drive[Vista & not recovery apartition].This may retain all your Dell tools along with your Windows8.

    Don't forget to create  recovery disk if in case your PC fails to boot..

    Indeed I had a problem with my keyboard and F8 key wasn't working.

    I've just got 2Gb RAMs and now I'd like to make use of my "one (1) set of backup disks per system purchased". (Dell Customers can now request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to your system). But I want to make it right!

    I've got my Inspiron 1501 long time ago in UK and it is still working fine and attending to all my needs, but now I am in Brazil, so I don't know if I could or should ask for my one (1) set of backup disks containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to my system in here (I hope so!).

    Could you, please, send me the link for the Brazil's region?
