Well the subject says it all really. Whatever software I use I have the same problem. The whirr of the DVD drive happens and the menu is loaded, but when it comes to playing the movie, the disc drive goes quiet and only has the repeating clicks of a drive struggling to read the disc. I don't understand why this I'm having a problem like this, the disc must be readable as the menu comes up.
I have an XPS-17 and the DVD drive is a TSST Corp DVD+-RW TS-L633J

With the disc in the drive, open Explorer and see if you can read the contents of the disc. You should see two folders, an audio and video folder.
